The call that started it all…
As fate would have it, just as we received that first inquiry for the triangular side windows, we were approached by a well-established four-wheel drive parts supplier. This company was known for top-tier brands like Warn winches and an array of off-road accessories. They wanted to know if we’d be interested in selling their products. Little did we know, this call would lead to a relationship spanning over 30 years with them, with us becoming their largest customer in the 4WD industry—a partnership that would become central to the growth of Devon 4x4 and still to this day we work very closely with these fantastic brands.
Simon and Liz deliberated over the opportunity. Back then, the idea of launching a telesales operation felt like a leap into the unknown, especially in an era when the internet was barely making its way into small businesses like ours. But we had the passion, a budding customer base, and a vision. So, with some excitement and nerves, we decided to go for it—and thus, our telesales business was born.
In 1999, we took an even bigger step, venturing online with our first website. It was basic by today’s standards, but it marked the beginning of a new era for us. Just a year later, in 2000, we rolled out a revised version with a more polished look and additional functionality. Our little online experiment quickly turned into a powerful tool, giving us a platform to reach customers across the UK and beyond. Over the years, we kept updating it, with major revamps in 2008 and 2015, as the world of e-commerce rapidly evolved around us.

When COVID hit, we took it as an opportunity to bring everything fully up-to-date. Our latest website which is a work in progress is more than just a storefront—it’s a constantly evolving platform designed to meet the expectations of a modern customer. Every day, we’re adding new features, improving functionality, and ensuring that our digital space mirrors the quality and expertise Devon 4x4 has become known for.
These iconic brands—Warn, Old Man Emu, and a growing lineup of others—have been the foundation of Devon 4x4’s journey, helping to shape us into the company we are today. From that first inquiry about custom windows to a thriving telesales business and an ever-evolving online presence, each step was pivotal in the evolution of Devon 4x4. And what started as a chance opportunity became the backbone of our brand, one that still drives us forward today.
