Originally, early Land Rovers carried the spare wheel on the bonnet. This worked well on Series III models with narrow tyres, but as wheel and tyre sizes increased, relocating the spare to the rear door became the logical solution. Unfortunately, this change led to a common problem for Land Rover owners: rattling, cracked, and even broken rear doors—issues that only worsen with larger wheels, heavier tyres, and demanding off-road conditions.

The TF059 Spare Wheel Carrier eliminates these problems entirely. Fully chassis-mounted, it removes all load from the rear door, making it an ideal solution for all Classic Defender models, including pickups and station wagons. It is especially suited to applications where independent opening of the spare wheel carrier—separate from the rear door or tailgate—is preferred.

This single-arm carrier is precision-engineered for strength and durability. It features a clever over-centre, lockable lever mechanism to hold it securely closed, while a gas strut-assisted opening ensures controlled, effortless operation. The gas strut is essential when parked on side slopes, prevents the carrier from closing under its own weight, and provides safe, comfortable access—particularly important on pickup models.

Finished in a durable satin black powder coat, the TF059 is supplied complete with a full fitting kit and comprehensive installation instructions.
